But, when the required exciting force is smaller than the maximum rated exciting force of the vibration test system, the field power supply that the constant current has to be continuously provided to produce the DC magnetic field constitutes a large part of power consumption compared with the drive power for the moving element. Among other things, solar array simulators are required for testing satellite power supplies. An SAS (Solar Array Simulator), consisting of an interconnection of several Solar Array Simulator modules, maps the solar panels and displays the individual strings connected in parallel. This extensometer is ideally suited for testing anisotropic materials such as advanced composites as well as for general purpose tests like determining Poisson’s ratio. The Model 3560BIA uses a design unique to Epsilon, where the knife edges remain parallel during the displacement. This approach greatly reduces crosstalk between axes and allows use on round or flat specimens with equal ease. These extensometers are very easy to mount. Integral springs hold the unit on the test sample. The parallel multiple flexure design makes these units very durable.The Model 3560AVG reads axial strain only as a single averaged output. It may also be supplied with two independent outputs, one measurement from each side of the specimen. This set-up is most commonly required when an indication of specimen bending is desired. The second version, the Model 3560BIA, includes both the averaged axial strain and the transverse strain. Again, this may also be configured as dual independent axial readings, which results in a three channel extensometer.The Model 3560 extensometers are strain gaged devices, making them compatible with any electronics designed for strain gaged transducers. Most often they are connected to a test machine controller. The signal conditioning electronics for the extensometer is typically included with the test machine controller or may often be added. In this case the extensometer is shipped with the proper connector and wiring to plug directly into the electronics. For systems lacking the required electronics, Epsilon can provide a variety of solutions, allowing the extensometer output to be connected to data acquisition boards, chart recorders or other equipment.

Fatigue Testing And Certification
Fatigue engineering is subject to uncertainty, and data from well executed tests are used to validate conclusions made by analysis and to provide a basis for structural certification. Our staff have extensive experience in testing materials and components under slowly varying, static loads, and under rapidly varying cyclic loads. Tests under static loads are used to assess material properties or to assess the load-deformation behavior of structural components. Tests under cyclic loads provide time to crack initiation, time to failure, or measurements of crack growth over time. We have extensive experience in measuring fatigue crack growth behavior in metallic materials. Past programs have measured crack growth with microscopy and photogrammetry at the surface, cracked area with direct current potential drop, and through-thickness crack profiles with quantitative fractography. By assessing crack growth with a variety of experimental methods, we enable robust analysis validation for cases of complex cracking. Our capabilities in fatigue engineering allow for careful design of a fatigue test program. Whether the tests use constant amplitude loading or an irregular loading spectrum, we specialize in engineering the test that meet your needs. Much of our experience is in non-standard test programs, which require engineering to optimize the test setup. Few others match our capability and experience in fatigue test engineering.
